Past productions have been organized by decade. In March 2016, after 46 years, Mill Race Players changed its name to Mill Race Theatre Company, incorporated as a non-profit in the state of Indiana and acquired 501(c)3 status.Following the 2014 show, Wind in the Willows, a small core began the reorganization of the independent Mill Race Players with an effort to recruit a board of directors and draft bylaws.Much of this partnership fell apart around 2008.For 2006 in order for Mill Race Players to survive, it became independent of Columbus Parks and Recreation Department, although a partnership agreement was forged with Parks providing seed money and services each year and Columbus Area Arts Council providing services. At the same time the Mill Race Players program lost the trust of the Columbus Parks and Recreation Department when the show went well over budget. In 2005 a collaboration was attempted with the Columbus Philharmonic Orchestra for Beauty and the Beast. From 2004 to 2014, Mill Race Players was back to producing one summer musical each year (with the exception 0f 2011 where two shows were produced).Shows were being performed at CNHS auditorium, East auditorium, Southside auditorium, Mill Race Amphitheater, The Commons, and the Senior Center (Pump House).Directors during this period included Shelli Loheide, Sheryl Nulph, John Johnson, Sue Elliott, and Mark Owens. In July of 1993, a 25 th Anniversary Reunion of Mill Race Players was held the weekend of Music Man.More often than not the December show was a Christmas program with an exclusively children’s cast. From 1989 through 2003, Mill Race Players was again producing 3 to 4 shows each year.It did, however, return to being a Columbus Parks and Recreation Department program. At some point Mill Race Players broke from the Columbus Parks and Recreation Department for a while, and was perhaps under the Driftwood Valley Arts Council or Columbus Arts Guild.Directors in this period included Ray LeBlanc and Charlotte Battin. After about 10 years, the program settled into a single summer musical (with only a couple December shows).Early directors included Marsha Morgan, Gary Valenza, Pam Olson, and Ray LeBlanc.

Performances were held at the new Columbus East High School Auditorium. In July 1975,Oklahoma! was postponed due to a tornado destroying the Mill Race Amphitheater. The program produced multiple shows (2 to 4) each summer for several years.Bye Bye Birdie, in August 1969, was the first show at new Mill Race Park Amphitheater. It had to be performed at the Rio Theater on 5 th Street (now the parking lot behind Old National Bank) because the Amphitheater in Mill Race Park was not finished yet. In the summer of 1969, the first Mill Race Players production was Tom Sawyer.

They funded the production staff salaries and provided office support. When they ran into difficulties, the Columbus Parks and Recreation Department stepped in to help.
